Peter Yardley-Jones is currently Assistant Organist at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, Glasgow, where he is responsible for accompanying and assisting in the direction of the choir. He is also Organist & Choirmaster at Houston & Killellan Kirk, Renfrewshire.
Prior to taking up his Cathedral post, Peter was organ scholar at the University of Glasgow (2006-2008). While he was there, his most notable work with the University Chapel Choir has included several broadcasts on BBC Radio 2 (Sunday Half Hour) and live on BBC Radio 4 (Morning Service).
Peter was born in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire in 1988. At the age of 13 he was awarded a music scholarship at Bradfield College, Berkshire, becoming organ scholar during his sixth-form years. During this time he managed his own choir, played regularly in chapel services and studied the organ with Simon Johnson at St. Alban’s Cathedral. He is now studying with Kevin Bowyer and John Butt at the University of Glasgow, where he is reading for a degree in music.
As a recitalist, Peter has performed in cathedrals and concert halls throughout the UK, most notable performance venues include Symphony Hall, Birmingham; Caird Hall, Dundee and in St John’s College, Cambridge as part of the Cambridge Summer Music Festival. He will make his American début in 2010 performing a solo recital in the Community of Christ Temple, Kansas City. He is also becoming increasingly active as an accompanist with professional choirs around the country and abroad. In 2005, he won first prize in the nationwide Geoff Spiers Organ competition run by the North Hampshire Organists’ Association.
