Artistic Director (Strings)
Glasgow born cellist Andrew Huggan, began his musical career at the age of nine under the tuition of Angela Welsh. After studying with Angela for several years Andrew gained a place at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama Junior department, under the tutelage of Timothy Paxton. Andrew is currently studying for his BMus (hons) at the RSAMD with Rudi De Groote. He is also a keen Baroque player, studying under Alison McGillivray and is the artistic director for Clyde Consort.
During his time at the RSAMD Andrew has had several opportunities to participate in master classes, one of which being with Johannes Goritzki.
Throughout school Andrew played with many orchestras and ensembles including; principal of the East Dunbartonshire Senior Schools Orchestra and String ensembles, and principal of the West of Scotland Schools Symphony Orchestra. Andrew is also a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and other NYOS ensembles.
Whilst at the RSAMD Juniors Andrew played in many competitions as a soloist and as founding member of the Mar Piano Trio, with whom he won the Househillwood and Pollok Community Association Trophy, and first place in the chamber music open category in the Glasgow Music Festival.
As well as being heavily involved with orchestral and solo commitments, Andrew dedicates a lot of his time to his teaching for North Lanarkshire Council orchestras, trying to educate the next generation of musicians.
